The Role

Writech is seeking a commercially focused and proactive Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to support the financial and contractual management of fire protection projects across Ireland, the UK and Europe. Working closely with the Head of Operations, Contracts managers, Project Engineers, Commercial and Finance, the QS will strengthen cost control, contractual awareness, cash flow, variation recovery and project profitability from tender handover to final account settlement. A particular focus is identifying, recording and quantifying delay, disruption and prolongation costs, protecting project margins and ensuring recoverable changes are appropriately pursued. Reports to: Head of Operations. Location: Mullingar HQ, Project Site visits as required

 Essential Criteria

• Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Commercial Management or related discipline.
• Typically 3–5 years’ relevant QS/commercial experience in construction, building services, mechanical or MEP contracting.
• Experience in cost control, valuations, variations, applications for payment and commercial reporting.
• Sound contractual awareness: payment mechanisms, change procedures, notice requirements and contractual obligations.
• Ability to analyse budgets, actual costs, costs to complete, final contract values and forecast gross margin.
• Understanding of programmes, delay, disruption, EOTs and their commercial implications.

Desirable

• Working knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts, including compensation events, variations, notices, payment and EOT mechanisms.
• Fire protection, sprinkler, mechanical services or specialist subcontractor experience.
• Understanding of sprinkler design, fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Familiarity with BS / IS EN 12845, NFPA, FM Global and client-specific requirements.
• Knowledge of applicable BESA and LME price adjustment indices and procurement cost controls.

Role Description

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Service Technician to join our Mullingar-based Service Team. This is a full-time, on-site and field-based role covering nationwide service work, with a strong focus on Dublin and surrounding regions. The Mullingar base is used for parts collection, planning, reporting, and support. The role involves servicing, maintaining, and repairing fire protection systems, sprinkler systems, and associated equipment in line with company and industry standards.

You will be required to travel daily to customer sites and must hold a full clean driving licence.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage and lead Project Engineers overseeing multiple projects from design to commissioning and collaborating and supporting the Commercial, Design and Service teams.
• Development and updating of Design SOP’s, Manuals, Procedures for your Department in line with legislative, regulatory, Company and Client requirements.
• Schedule and plan for upcoming works and provide updates to relevant Departments to ensure project resources are available when required.
• Ensure all projects are tracked, monitored, planned and progress updated in relevant project management schedules and systems.
• Review and analyse reports in Structures and all project data is up to date for accurate invoicing and billing.
• Develop and implement standard designs and project tools used to build efficiencies in project execution.
• Review all drawings as per code - provide succession development training of staff to upskill their abilities to do same.

This role will also be a key liaison for our engineering team and other key functions of the business (Quality, Safety, Manufacturing/ Assembly, Finance and HR). This is a fast-paced environment, and the role will suit a candidate who has outstanding planning and organisational skills. This role will develop and change as a result of changing business needs, this role will suit a highly ambitious individual with an interest in operations/ project management processes. This role will have the Design & Project leads, Project Administrator and Installation Supervisors reporting directly to them. Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working with project leads & engineers and site-based teams, accurately forecasting, and executing resources on projects
• Liaise with Commercial, Design & Service departments from tendering through to commissioning stage of projectsto ensure smooth handover of contract to all relevant internal teams. Review on a weekly basis that all contract progress is completed andin line with budgets/project expectations.
• Point of contact for Operations and identify the issues they have, caused by Projects team and work with them to resolve.
• Champion and assist monitoring of Quality processes for the projects.
• Lead and track performance of all direct reports.
• Manage all external sub-contractors and monitor quality/costs associated with them.
• Manage onboarding of new subcontractor/hires, negotiate terms and conditions.
• Continue the management of subcontractors/hires, monitoring the quality or work/costs associated with them.
• Manage all external contract hire.
• Schedule and monitor all direct reports workload to ensure they are all following the program, their own KPIs and managing their own teams accordingly.
• Manage the contract programs and progress reporting on inhouse systems.

Ideal Candidate:

• 3+ years’ experience as a Project Manager over multiple projects
• Degree or Diploma in Project Management or equivalent demonstrable experience
• Skilled communicator with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with key areas of the business and customers.
• Strong commercial awareness
• Ability to thrive under pressure, working with tight project deadlines, whilst maintaining adherence to process disciplines.
• Must be responsible, personable, detail oriented, and self-motivated with solid organisation and time management skills and a strong focus on planning.
